as Susan B. Anthony Day in West Virginia."
Whereas
, Susan Brownell Anthony was born on February 15,
1820, at South Adams, Massachusetts; and
Whereas
, Susan B. Anthony's conviction that voteless and
propertyless women could exert little influence in any reform
movement led her to help organize the "Whole World's Temperance
Convention"; and
Whereas
, Her interest in the abolition of slavery led her in
1861 to organize the Women's Loyalty League to abolish slavery
and guarantee civil and political rights for all Americans; and
Whereas
, In 1868, she served as a Delegate to the National
Labor Union Convention where her resolutions calling for an
eight-hour day and equal work were adopted; and
Whereas
, She organized the National Women's Suffrage
Association in 1868, committed to the passage of a national
women's suffrage amendment, and through her efforts, the first
women's suffrage amendment to the United States Constitution was
introduced into Congress in December, 1868; and
Whereas
, With her unusual single-mindedness she entered upon
a 30-year period of almost ceaseless travel throughout the
country working for passage of a federal suffrage amendment to
the United States Constitution; and
Whereas
, Her exceptional organizational ability and
political acumen enabled her to lead the women's suffragemovement for over 50 years; and
Whereas
, In February, 1906, she attended her last women's
suffrage convention and left her message for the future: "Failure
Is Impossible"; and
Whereas
, Susan B. Anthony died in 1906, 14 years before the
passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States
Constitution, which guaranteed the right to vote to the women of
the United States; therefore, be it
